How to integrate a painting into an interior
In this project, our challenge was to seamlessly integrate a vibrant painting, which the clients already owned, into a calm and understated interior. Additionally, it was important to incorporate storage space for kitchen textiles and create a cozy reading nook.
We divided the room into three main zones:
A living area with a sofa and a lounge chair. A dining area with a large table for gatherings. A storage area in the passage between the kitchen and the rest of the apartment.
Living Area
We suggested placing the painting above a sideboard to make it the focal point while maintaining a light and airy feel in the dining area. The interior colors were derived from the artwork but in more muted and sophisticated shades—ochre instead of yellow, olive instead of bright green.
Dining Area
The dining table, with its smooth curved lines and matching chairs, became the centerpiece, perfectly complementing the Japandi aesthetic. To avoid overwhelming the wall with the bold painting, we added only a gallery of black-and-white photographs in elegant black frames to the dining area.
Connecting element
Opposite the sofa, we placed an olive-colored TV console. Positioned diagonally from the painting, it serves as a visual link between the dining and living areas. Near the TV, we arranged a composition of artworks to draw attention away from the large black screen against the light wall.
A cozy reading corner
The reading nook turned out to be a particularly cozy space, featuring a floor lamp and a coffee table. A special touch was given to a pug figurine, which the clients already owned, complemented by a playful dog-themed poster.
The project was completed in collaboration with Ekaterina Ivanova-Emin

My approach is to make your interior a cozy corner where you feel comfortable, whether you are at home or far away from your familiar surroundings.”
