Rethinking the Layout

The original plan was to keep the living room, dining area and kitchen separate, with the smallest room used as the bedroom. During the planning process, however, it became clear that a private home office was essential for the client. The nine-square-metre room was therefore dedicated entirely to work, while the generous kitchen and dining area took on an additional function as the main living space.

More Space, Less Corridor

To make the new living area feel truly spacious, just one wall was removed, incorporating part of the corridor into the room. Instead of a long, dark passage without natural light, the apartment gained an open and airy living space where the kitchen, dining and lounge areas flow naturally into one another. A relatively small intervention completely changed the way the apartment is perceived and used.

A Forest of Color

The starting point for the interior was the deep-blue wallpaper with its whimsical forest motif of berries and animals. A blue TV cabinet continues the background colour, while the dark screen almost disappears against the wall instead of becoming the focal point of the room. The forest theme reappears in the dining area through a tapestry with birds, bringing together the greens, blues and warm berry tones used throughout the interior.

Color That Connects

Since the existing white kitchen was brought over from the clients’ previous apartment, colour was introduced through finishes and carefully selected accents instead of new cabinetry. A green tiled backsplash meets a burgundy wall, echoed by the pink sofa and burgundy seating. Mustard-yellow pendant lights above the island connect with the clients’ existing curtains, while the tapestry brings all of these tones together. Each colour appears in more than one place, allowing a vibrant interior to feel cohesive rather than visually fragmented.
